Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions can rise when there is an increase in the amount of magma or when magma is closer to the surface, both of which can be a sign of potential eruptive activity. But 5 days ago, USGS scientist David Johnston measured SO2 fumes and the results were paltry. But SO2 dissolves in water. Perhaps it is being scrubbed by ground
